Despite the great beaches in both towns, even nowadays many tourists come here not for a beach holiday. There are some historical reasons for that. Of course, the entire beach infrastructure is well maintained, for example colored umbrellas or unusual tents.
This is nothern France and water is not very warm here. The beaches are full just for a few weeks a year.
In September, Deauville helds an American Film Festival. Special guests have their own beach cabins, which now become the main attraction of the town.
Most people are just walking along the long wooden platform. Here is a good video showing "crazy" rhythm of the resort :)
Bathing suits ouside the promenade are forbidden.
Hotels are separated from the beach by a huge lawn.
Right near the beach is a big indoor swimming pool with sea water. I will be not surprised if it has more visitors than the beach.
This picture illustrates a contingent of tourists in Deauville. Entertainments here are relevant: expensive horses, vintage cars, auctions, casino, poker, Film Festival, pool, tennis, golf, polo, shooting and so on.
Center of Deauville has many original and well-renovated half-timbered houses. Everything looks very nice.

In Trouville the best places are waterfront with half-timbered houses, market and casino.
In the market we bought some meals and had lunch on the beach.
Getting there: The Deauville has a small airport. Train station (http://www.sncf.com/) is located near the bridge that connects the towns. Find here information about the buses. We came by car and parked near the casino in Trouville.
