In the end of 19th century Claude Monet noticed sunset at Etretat and thanks to him town became wellknown, as he painted dozens of pictures here in the late 19th century.
The main attraction of Etretat is a high limestone shore. Therefore, we went to the left and up the hill.
During low tide people go to this hidden beach and sometimes cannot return back for few hours due to high water.
Needle Rock (L'Aiguille)
Golf Course has been here since 1906
We descended back to the city, where had the dinner. The town itself is not particularly picturesque due to new buildings on waterfront.
At the top, near the church, there is a cool viewpoint. We wanted to get there by car, but it turned out that in the summer upper parking lot can be full and sometimes road is closed.
Near the church there is a monument to the two French pilots who on 8 May 1927 tried to make the first non-stop flight from Paris to New York on a single-engine aircraft. They did not reach New York and were last seen over Etretat.
Arch Upper Gate (La Porte d'Amont).
