Verhovyna is a village located in a picturesque place along the river Black Cheremosh. The village is location quite high, the lower part at an altitude of 620 meters and the upper reaches 1,250 meters. The village is worth coming for exploring the beautiful places, rafting (village has a rafting school) and for exploring the Hutsul culture. We even had lunch in a real Hutsul house. Tried several local dishes:
 - "brynza", cheese from sheep's milk
 - "banosh", polenta with cheese or with cracklings
 - "knedlyki", dumplings, potato products
 - "holubci", cabbage rolls, here they are small in size, each for one bite
 - "kartoplyanyki", potato cutlets with stuffing
 - "guslyanka", fermented milk product

In most countries where we have been, you can always learn about the culture and life of the people who lived in this territory in the past. Hutsul culture in Ukraine is one of the most colorful.

In the center of the village, near the hotel, stand a strange inscription ("This is Żabie, Hutsul capital"). The village had polish title Żabie until 1962.

Verhovyna is the center of Hutsul culture, here located the main museum. There are also several other museums, in particular private museum of Roman Kumlyk, which contains old musical instruments.

Another unusual museum is the house ("hata") in which lived famous sovied director Sergei Parajanov during the filming of his best film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors". The film tells about the life of the Hutsul and for better transmission of the atmosphere director lived with this Hutsul family.

There were some old clothes in the house and we tried them. What's interesting, it is not exhibition or souvenir clothing, everything is real.

Near the house-museum starts a dirt road that leads to Mount Pushkar (800 m). Be sure to climb to the top and view excellent scenery. Here filmed scenes from the movie.

Pushkar is simple mountain to climb. You can also climb the mountains Mazurka (1000 m), Bila Kobyla (White Mare, 1500 m) and Synytsa (Parus, 1200 m). From the city, even in June seen snow-capped peaks.

Getting there: The nearest railway station is located in Vorohta, 32 kilometers away. But there is only one bus from Vorohta at 9:45. The easiest way is to go by bus from Ivano-Frankivsk, there are plenty of buses during a day.
