Warning! It was reported by Wildlife Reserves Singapore on 1 June 2016 that Jurong Bird Park will cease operation and be relocated to Mandai in 2020. It will be renamed soon, check information on the official website before the visit.

Besides the great zoo there's a bird park in Singapore. The birds are also living in the wild here. There are more than 5,000 birds here, and it is the world's largest park by this parameter.

The idea of creating a park in Singapore came from the Minister of Finance Dr Goh Keng Swee in 1968 after a visit to the zoo in Rio de Janeiro. Thanks to his support, necessary amount for the construction of the park was found in a short line. Already on the opening day 12 countries, 7 zoos and 40 individuals presented to the park its first residents. In 2006 S$10 million was invested into the park, which allowed to add the missing infrastructure.

Most of all we liked the pavilion with Lories. There's not many places where birds sit on your shoulders, head and all other parts of the body. In addition, it is the largest pavilion in the world for these small wood parrots, brightly painted in all the colors of the rainbow. Be sure to take a jar of food for a small fee. There are other large aviaries in the park that you can enter, but birds there try to sit too far away from the visitors. And the Lories are absolutely not afraid of people.

Throughout the park you can see the monorail line, but in 2012 the monorail was closed. I'm not surprised. Who comes to the bird park to ride the monorail? And if you are tired, you can get to the exit by electric tram.

Check out information about opening hours and ticket prices at the official website.
