City became Romanian only after the First World War. It was founded by the German colonists. They also built in 1556 the main attraction - the clock tower. In the Middle Ages here were located the Municipality, the court and the archive.
Unlike other mythical places in Romania associated with Dracula, here is a real house where Vlad Tepes was born. It is located behind the clock tower.
There is a small room with a big surprise on the second floor, be sure to visit it :)
Inside there is also the restaurant Casa Vlad Dracul, where we had lunch. All the dishes' are related to Dracula.
The old town is small, it can be easily visited in 2 hours. Colored houses give a special flavor.
A long covered Scholar's stairs lead to the top of the hill. Earlier there were fortifications, but now there is nothing left. There is only an old cemetery, a church and a lyceum which gave the name to the stairs.
The church on the hill is one of the oldest buildings in the city.
One of the towers, now home of cemetery caretaker.
Not finding beautiful views at the top of the hill, we climbed the nearest mountain.
Getting there is not easy, so if you're not a fan of photography, better don't go.
We stayed in the hotel DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sighisoara (booking.com). If you have a car, then do not look for anything else, it has the best location and convenient parking. If you are a budget traveller check Pension am Schneiderturm (booking.com).
Getting there: by train, find here the schedule.
