In 1992, it was opened to tourists, and in 2009 6 million euros were invested in the modernization of the tourist infrastructure. This was accompanied by numerous political scandals and changes in the headquaters of the mine. In 2010, a new entrance B was opened.
Tourists can visit a long corridor, a huge underground Rudolf mine and several small rooms. Actually, the big mine is the main attraction. Inside there is even a Ferris wheel and a lake with boats. The most interesting part is lighting, the cave looks like a spaceship from the Star Trek.
Find opening times and prices on the official website. The mine works year-round, the temperature inside is constant (12° C). If you come in the summer, better be earlier, as the place is popular and big queues are possible.
Getting there: New entrance (B) N 46 35.295 E 23 47.248, old entrance (A) N 46 35.046 E 23 46.626. The nearest railway station is Cimpia Turzii, 15 km away. You can get from there by bus or by taxi. Turda is located at the intersection of the main roads, it's also easy to get here by bus (http://www.autogari.ro/).
