The castle stands on the territory of the feudal estate, founded in the 14th century. The modern, neo-Gothic building was built in the years 1853-1874. The general design of the estate was created by the architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase, known for many buildings, for example, the best castle in Lower Saxony - Marienburg.

Having changed several owners, in 1933 the castle passed into the hands of the National Socialist German Workers Party. Ideological architectural changes were made and the castle was used as a summer camp for the Hitler Youth.

During the period of GDR, the castle was used as a hospital for the mentally ill. After the unification of Germany, it again changed several owners who carried out a complete renovation. Now it’s a residential castle, but you can walk into the territory and the park.
