Grömitz is located on the Baltic Sea, which imposes certain restrictions on the beach component. The entrance to the water is long and shallow, and the water temperature is suitable for swimming in a fairly narrow range of time. Nevertheless, we enjoyed swimming, as did our daughter.
It should be said that Grömitz is worth a visit even without a beach holiday. There is an excellent, new and well-equipped promenade, many restaurants and a long pier.
Despite the fact that the city is a resort since 1813, it is quite modern. There are new tiles on the promenade, freshly renovated hotels, trendy restaurants, and literally everything is in very good condition.
The pier is 398 meters long, one of the longest piers in Germany.
There is an underwater elevator on the pier. There are a few of them in Germany, but we have never visited any.
A funny historical exhibit of the Bathing Machine (Badekarre). You can see pictures on wikipedia to understand how it worked.
Here 54.146659, 10.969280 is an interesting swing where you can take photos for instagram.
There is also one of the largest marinas in Germany, built in the 1960s.
Another beach just behind the marina.
We also visited the local Zoo Arche Noah.
Lots of interesting things in the region as well.
As I wrote, the resort is modern, but even now it is actively developing. At the moment (2022-2023), on the waterfront, the new Dünenpark Grömitz is being built, so we'll be stopping here again.
Getting there: the nearest train station is Neustadt (Holst), from there take bus 5800 to Grömitz.
