Nice is best described by this photo.
It is a city to stroll along the sea, sit in a restaurant and visit boutiques. Nice is well known for its Promenade des Anglais, which also became infamous after a terrorist attack in 2016.
The city is built up mainly with buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
There are quite a few works of art on the streets.
In the center of Nice there is an excellent Castle Hill (Colline du Château), you can climb there on foot from the waterfront.
The beggars in Nice have become so insolent that they don't even ask for money personally.
The observation decks offer a good view of Nice.
A large beach is visible, we bathed there, but it looked like torture and we can't recommend. It is covered with large pebbles, which are impossible to walk on without shoes, it is difficult to enter the water, there are no changing cabins and toilets. Which means - Nice is not a beach resort.
Under the hill is the old town, which, however, looks more like Italy than France. This is not surprising since Nice previously belonged to the Italian Duchy of Savoy.
Market in the old town.
Usually, there are hotels, apartments and restaurants along the sea in most of resorts, but here they are only on the second line. The first line is occupied by strange old houses.
There is a large and beautiful park, The Promenade du Paillon, on the site of the dried-up bed of the Payon River. The same can be seen in many cities, for example in Valencia. The river is not completely dry, it is hidden under the ground, but there is almost no water there.
