Ecuador has almost all climatic zones, and, surprisingly, they are very close one to another. One hour from the mountains and we are in the real jungle. There are a few towns in Ecuador that are located on the border with the jungle and from these towns you can start a tour. Closest to Quito are Puyo (Puyo) and Misahuali (Misahualli). 5-6 years ago it was extremely difficult to get there, but with the contruction of new roads after, new roads, it has become easier.
We spent a night in the Misahuali village. There was no plan to visit the jungle as we did not have time for 2 or 3 days tour and 1 day is not what we want. The only interesting place in the village is the central square Besides being able to get on a tour into the jungle, in the village there is only one attraction - is the central square with numerous monkeys that entertain spectators. Around the same area looking for guides for a hike in the jungle.
Misahuali stands on the shore of Rio Napa, the main water artery in the region. The photo shows a long boat which is used to ride tourists.
We stayed at the Banana Lodge. It's cheap and cosy, with lots of flowers on the territory.
The lodge is located on the bank of the river, where you can even swim, when current is not strong. But the water is pretty muddy :)
Also we saw a huge tree in the jungle, the third largest in Ecuador. Unfortunately, I did not write the coordinates, so ask the locals.
8 km in the direction of Tena there also a waterfall Río Latas.
Getting there: There are regular buses to Misahualli from the bus station Terminal Terrestre in Tena. From Quito to Tena buses depart every hour from Terminal Quitumbe (5 hours, $6-7).
