Not far from the capital of Ecuador, Quito, in the mountains, there is a thermal hotel Papallacta Therme (booking.com), located on the sources that exist since the time of the Inca Empire. Quito is also at high altitude, but the hotel is even higher, about 3,300 meters. The place is very quiet and peaceful. The hotel is built by German guy.
The main feature of the hotel is a shallow thermal pools, which are located right on site. Water is heated by volcanic activity, and it's very nicely to go out of the room and find a termal bath just 3 meters from the door.
Most rooms have shared pools, although we did not see other swimmers. There are also more expensive houses with private pools.
From the hotel we visited the park Cayambe Coca, but it is at a distance. A few hundred meters towards it, there is a wicket that leads to the small picturesque ecotrail that worth a visit. Look for a wicket and wooden map here (S00°21.612 W078°9.014).
On the ecotrail we met several rabbits and saw datura. Rabbits here are different from european rabbits, most likely it is a kind of teporingo, volcanic rabbit.
