In 2005 a new and the most significant landmark appeared in Quito - the cable car to the volcano Pichincha. Quito is located at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level and the upper station on the 4050 meters. You can walk even to the volcano, it's height is 4784 meters. Just keep in mind that at such altitude even a small rise given hard.
Top offers fantastic views of Quito and the surrounding mountains. If you go for a walk in the mountains, look around, there are a lot of rabbits there.
Opening hours are from 9 to 19, but in 2014 the cable car worked from 8 in the morning. Round-trip ticket for foreigners cost $8 (2014), express-pass has the same price. Some cabins allow to bring your bikes for a surcharge. Also, top station offers bicycles for rent, but you need to come as earlier as you can. Actually, it is always better to come early as in the afternoon sky is often clouded.
Getting there: The best option is to take a taxi. If you want to go on the public transport then stand on the intersection of 10 de Agosto and Avenida Cristóbal Colón, look in the direction of the mountains and take the blue bus, on which will be written OCCIDENTAL. Ask the driver to stop near the place where start shuttle buses to Teleferiko. You can also take the bus Trans ALFA on the street 12 de Octubre, it passes near the Teleferiko.
