As it happened, there are several trails running around the hillside, at different heights. We took the lowest trail, starting here at 49.911989, 5.932660. It has some spectacular views.
The picture shows the ruins of Burg Esch-Sauer, the main part of which was built from the XII to the XIV century. Since the 16th century the castle fell into disrepair. The only reconstruction to strengthen against further destruction took place at the beginning of the twentieth century, at the expense of wealthy citizens. The ruins are accessible to the public.
