In the forest near Überlingen there is an unusual memorial in the form of huge metal balls. It is dedicated to the plane crash over Lake Constance, in which 70 people died, most of them children.
The collision had a tragic consequences. Vitaly Kaloev, a Russian who lost his wife and two children in the crash, came to Switzerland and killed air traffic controller Peter Nielsen, who was found guilty of the collision. Dozens of documentaries have been made about these events. And in 2017, the movie Aftermath was released, where the role of Kaloev was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Huge metal balls symbolize the pearls on the torn necklace by which Kaloev identified his dead daughter.
