There is almost no old town. However, pay attention in the center to the Schloßstraße. This shopping street is completely unremarkable with the typical new buildings. But, thanks to the trees in huge pots, it looks very interesting.
There is also an interesting color square in front of the old post office, which now hosts the Museum of /Art.
The most interesting place in the city is a promenade and a Muga park. Promenade along the Ruhr is very pleasant.
Using several bridges you can get from the city center to the park Muga.
The park is quite large, it appeared after the regional horticultural exhibition in 1992.
/A huge camera obscura is the most interesting object in the park (http://www.camera-obscura-muelheim.de). It's like a dark room where the light creates images through small holes in the walls. In 1992 Carl Zeiss /AG mounted it in the former water tower. In 2005 museum of prehistory of cinema was opened on the lower floors.
There is also a Broich Castle in the park, which was built in 883-884 years for the protection against the Normans. Now it is used for exhibitions, weddings and concerts.
In the north of the city you can find the Styrum castle, first mentioned in 1067. For a long time it belonged to the genus Limburg-Styrum. In 1890 the castle was bought by industrialist /August Thyssen for one of his employees. The castle was rebuilt and got its modern design. Before the Horticultural Exhibition of 1992 the castle and park were restored. You can get there by tram 110 to Siegfriedbrücke, Meißelstraße or MH-Styrum or by S-Bahn S1, S2, S3 to Mülheim(Ruhr)Styrum.
/August Thyssen built a water tower near the castle, which is now a water museum /Aquarius. /And in the castle is a restaurant.
Getting there: By train to Mülheim (Ruhr) Hbf, use bahn.de. The nearest airports are in Dusseldorf and Dortmund.
