The castle was built between 1657 and 1683 and has not been rebuilt since. The castle building itself is not particularly interesting, but in combination with the other buildings of the estate and especially the castle park, it leaves a pleasant impression. Entrance is free, so if you're in the neighborhood, be sure to take a walk in the park.
In 1945, the estate was confiscated by the British occupation forces and used as the headquarters of the British Rhine Army, and from 1952 also as a command post for the British Navy. The castle returned to its owners in 1955. Between 1962 and 2009, it was home to people with disabilities. At the moment the castle houses a training center, Christmas fair seminars, art week and other cultural events. In the barn there is a German museum of automatons.
