It was built in 2000 for several purposes: car sales, test drives, educational center, museum (ZeitHaus) and entertainment center. Another goal was to create a tourist attraction for Wolfsburg, since apart from the AutoCity, there is not many interesting places here. Even now (in 2018) it looks very futuristic and it is interesting how it was perceived by the first visitors in 2000.
When buying a Volkswagen or SEAT you have the opportunity to pick it up in the AutoCity. If you live nearby, then this is a very interesting option for the whole family. The fact is that in addition to a small entertainment program, you will receive the car in the futuristic towers.
Each of them store up to 400 cars that get inside from the factory by an underground automatic tunnel. The factory is one of the largest in the world, compare its size with the AutoCity and the Volkswagen Arena.
Every day about 500 people get their new cars here. In the tower you can look at the work of high-speed robotic elevator and even go to the top to see the AutoCity from above.
At first, the visitors get into a huge hall, which houses the world's largest glass doors. Here you can buy tickets and souvenirs, as well as visit a restaurant. Also here located an educational center.
Many of the newest cars are cutted. You can look at all the insides, find out where is the airbag or akkus, how the seat belt is attached and how the windows risers work.
And these are not mockups, real cars were cut with a laser.
Someone might wonder why in the city of Volkswagen are represented representative Bentley or carbon Lamborghini. The fact is that these cars as well as Audi, Porsche, Skoda, Bugatti, Seat, Scania, MAN, Ducati and others, belong to the Volkswagen Group, which is the world leader in car sales (2018).
All exhibits are educational and interactive, some games can be played by the whole family.
This green room is a dream on an Instagrammer.
There are many other entertainment for children around the complex.
The area is green and very well-groomed.
Tourists here are visiting pavilions of various car brands, they are all different. Porsche and Audi focus on design.
Skoda and Seat are all very simple.
Lamborghini offers to watch a 5-minute show with a car demonstration.
Volkswagen has the most boring pavilion, though here you can see and touch a complete model range.
If you are visiting Wolfsburg at the end of November or in December, we strongly recommend visiting the Chtistmas market in the AutoCity. We have visited many markets and so far this is the most beautiful. Free admission.
