Another unique house by architect César Manrique, built directly into the rock, in a natural setting. LagOmar was originally built for British Sam Benady. The aim of the architects was to create a mix of nature, mythology and Arabic flavor. And they did it very well. When the Egyptian actor Omar Sharif came to Lanzarote in the early 1970s to shoot the movie "The Mysterious Island", he fell in love with this construction project and bought the house.
According to legend, he actually owned it for only one day. Because Omar Sharif is said to have lost it again to Sam Benady in a game of bridge just one day after buying it. So most likely the information about Omar Sharif is just a lure for tourists.
In 1989, the house was bought by architects Dominik von Böttinger and Beatriz van Hoff. The German-Uruguayan couple improved the design of the house and gave it its current appearance. There is now a museum, a restaurant, a bar, and apartments for rent.
