The wooden church in Lom (1158-59) is one of the biggest and most beautiful medieval churches in Norway. The original date of construction was determined by analysis of the wood in the oldest part. For that time the church was considered to be quite large and was used in the entire region. In 1349 came the plague, and development of the church stood by as much as 300 years. Only in the early 17th century it became clear that it was too small for that time and required reconstruction. In 1634 and 1663, the church was expanded in all directions. Until the late 19th century, the church had been used by travelers, until hotels and guest houses appeared. Nowadays there's a large gallery of paintings inside the church.
