Vøringfossen is a quite large and powerful waterfall in Norway. Its total height is 182 meters, the height of free fall of water is 145 meters. Curiously, even with such a scale it is the 83rd highest waterfall in the country! Although by the average flow rate it must be at the top. The waterfall is located in a very scenic place.
There are several lookouts and picnic sites with spectacular views. And on the very edge of the cliff are great photo points :)
Next to the waterfall, you can find the Fossli Hotel, souvenir shops, and a restaurant.
The waterfall can be observed from the canyon. To do this, you have to walk 1.2 km along the nature trail. This is possible from mid-May to October. Below on the map look for photo points and access to the trail.
The waterfall belongs to the Hardangervidda National Park. Unfortunately, we had no time to walk along the picturesque places in the area, so there's a plan to return here in the future.
Getting there: The nearest town is Eidfjord (18 km). From Oslo take a train to Geilo (73 km from the falls), then go by bus in the direction of Eidfjord, it passes right next to the waterfall. For example, bus #991 (timetable). From Bergen you can go by train to Voss (70 km), then by bus to Eidfjord and then either by taxi or by bus in the direction of Geilo.
