In Scheveningen, one of the districts of The Hague, there is a large pier, 382 metres long, with shops and restaurants, a popular holiday destination. Since 1901, there was another pier near this spot, opposite the current Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus, which was dismantled by the Germans in 1943 due to fears that it could be used for landing troops.
The current pier was opened in 1959. It has an unusual design with two storeys and the lower floor is fully enclosed, so it is possible to walk there even during bad weather.
In 1991 and 2013 the pier went bankrupt and was closed. At the moment it is working, but from the photos, you can see that the place looks like a huge mess. The pier has a Ferris wheel and a bungee jumping tower.
