It is not known when it was built, the first mention dates back to the 13th century and since then it has never been captured, which is not surprising given its location. As in other places, the castle was used by local peasants during sieges.
For several centuries, the castle was even the capital of the island. Excavations carried out in 1999 showed that the fortifications on this site existed already in the V-VII century, during the Byzantine era.
We arrived in the morning and were pretty much alone there. Though the best views are in the evening, but it can be hot. A little before reaching the parking lot, you can stop (39.680583, 19.686556) and take pictures of the beautiful panorama.
The castle has opening hours (10-17) and inexpensive tickets, but the entrance to the trail is not closed in any way, so you can arrive early or late. We arrived early in the morning, walked up, and paid at the ticket office on the way down.
From the parking lot you have to walk up to the top, the trail isn't particularly long, but it will be tough in the heat. By the way, there is drinking water at the top, right here, near a tree.
Due to its location on a high cliff, it offers scenic views of the coastline from above.
Getting there: parking lot 39.679500, 19.686333. There are no buses here, so either by car or taxi.
