Meissen has one of the most beautiful castles in Germany - Albrechtsburg. This was the main reason why we came here. The best views of the castle open from the other side of the river, although not many tourists get there.

We also wanted to taste a local biscuit - fummel, but it turned out that at the moment it is made only in one cafe near the castle, which was closed in the morning, when we were there

The castle was built in the years 1471-1500 and was originally planned as the first German residence castle. During the construction, in 1485, Saxony was divided and the residence was moved to Dresden and Wittenberg.

For a long time nobody lived in the castle and in 1710 the Saxon Elector and Polish King Augustus II the Strong opened here Europe's first porcelain manufactory. By the way this technology appeared just a year earlier. Due to porcelain Meissen is known in the world. Nowadays castle hold a museum and the manufactory located in a different place and it can be visited (http://www.meissen.com/en).
