Because tourists used to visit the mine, a small garden with benches was laid out on the slag heap in the 1860s. The man in charge of the mine provided hot water for visitors to boil the coffee they brought with them. After 1920, when the mining operations ceased to exist, this popular tourist destination was in danger of disappearing. Between 1924 and 1925, with the help of donated wood and volunteer help, a small woodland tavern was built and operated under the direction of the Harz Club.
To avoid the threat of closure due to structural defects, the dining room and kitchen were modernized and sanitary facilities were installed between 1976 and 1978.
