The park appeared here with the construction in 1715 of the Old Palace, the residence of Margrave Georg William. After his death, the residence passed to his son Frederick, and he presented it to his wife Wilhelmina. The name Hermitage is translated from French as a place of solitude.

Unlike the similar
Park in Wörlitz, which was laid a bit later, the public was allowed into this park only one day a year, during the festival. Since 1969, the Summer Night festival has been resumed and is usually held at the end of July. Although you can visit the park at any time, admission is free.

In the 19th century, some elements disappeared, but in recent decades they have been restored and you have a unique opportunity to see an example of gardening in the first half of the 18th century.
