Ansbach is best known as the former residence of the Margraves of Ansbach-Brandenburg. Last Margrave Alexander conceded both principalities in 1791 to his heir, King of Prussia Wilhelm III. On the basis of the Treaty of Tilsit, they came under the authority of France and then in the early 19th century became part of Bavaria.

Accordingly, Margrave's Palace is the main attraction of the city. It was built in the Italian style in 1713-1732. At the moment, it is the government of Middle Franconia. It is possible to visit the palace with a tour but only at scheduled times and pictures are not allowed.

Near the palace is a garden (Hofgarten) with a large orangery. It's interesting that garden and palace are not connected and this is perhaps a unique case in Germany. We were in Ansbach in December, so did not see the flowers. Although, according to the pictures on the internet garden is well-kept and beautiful. In the orangery now located restaurant.

Ansbach also has a nice old town. Central square is surrounded on both sides with a huge church of St. Humbert and the Church of St. Johannis.
