After visiting of more than 100 cities and towns in Germany, we did not expect that here exist a real medieval town with walls. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is such a town, completely walled.

Curiously, one of the places here, is one of the symbols of Germany and often comes in various ratings of the most beautiful places in the world. This is a small square (Plönlein) used to be the market. On the photo to the left - gate Siebers (1385), to the right - gate Kobolzeller.

Usually here is a crowd of tourists, so we were lucky to make picture without people. Old Town is really surrounded by a fortified wall. On the next photo besides the wall is also visible popular with tourists house Old Smithy.

Passing through the gate, lift your head and find a funny mask on the wall. Through this hole the castle's defenders poured hot tar onto attackers.

The castle no longer exists, but the gate and the park itself is one of the best places in town.

Many houses look very unusual, even for Germany.

Town Hall on the Market Square was built in two styles. The back, white part, in the Gothic style (1250-1400), the front in the Renaissance style (1572-1578). The high white tower is open to visitors. You have to pay entrance fee at the very top, so just look for a way through the town hall, go through the turnstile and go up the stairs.

The fairy tale festival Rothenburger Märchenzauber is held annually in early November. We did not participate in the events, but walked and watched the beautiful lighting.
