An excellent example of land reclamation on the site of an industrial port. The harbor was built between 1901 and 1906, due to the growing population of Berlin. By 1908, Havestadt & Contag built a warehouse with a capacity of 14,000 tons on the north side of the harbor. The half-timbered façade of this building was covered in tuff and basalt lava, in the style of earlier 18th-century half-timbered warehouses.

It was one of the first reinforced concrete buildings in Germany. Between the water and the building stood a series of cranes, which were used to unload ships. During World War II the structure was badly damaged and after the war it was used as the Berlin Senate archives.

In 2007, the city gave permission to build a shopping center, provided that the developer maintains the relationship between the historic buildings and modern architecture. We have to say that the task was fulfilled, it's a very nice place with a harmonious architecture.
