Gardens of Marqueyssac

Beautiful landscape gardening complex in the valley of the Dordogne River. Located in a private estate of the 18th century, but available for a visit.

In July and August a special event Candlelight Night takes place every Thursday. On this day, thousands of candles are put throughout the park and the lights are turned on. Various performances of artists and musicians take place.




Skillfully trimmed boxwood shrubs. The plant is everywhere in the gardens.


There are no people in the photos, but this is just a long exposure and the magic of Photoshop. In fact gardens are quite crowded.












The gardens are quite large, so it makes sense to come at least an hour before sunset, so that you can walk to the very end and return.

As seen on the following map, the gardens are located on high cliffs above the Dordogne River. There are several good viewpoints of the valley. But you have to come earlier to see the panorama.

We spent the night a kilometer from the gardens at the Logis Hôtel l'Oustal (booking.com). If you are traveling by car, then it is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. There is a pool and good parking.
