Protaras is a small town on the east coast of Cyprus, best known for the famous Fig Tree Bay Beach, which is considered to be the best on the island. We visited this place because of the beach. The water is really crystal clear, there are many reefs and fish. Be aware that the changing rooms are not on the beach, but on the parking lot. There's a lot of tourists on the beach, so we passed along the hotels to a small creek (map) and bathed there alone.
By the way, Protaras as a resort appeared not long time ago. Prior to the capture by the Turks, the most developed city on the east coast was Famagusta.
Cape Greco is located nearby and can be visited by taxi (12 euros), bus, or by a rented buggy or quad bike.
Getting there: Taxi from Ayia Napa costs 15-17 euro. Protaras can also be reached by buses ##101 (schedule, map) and 102 (schedule, map). You can go to Ayia Napa by the Intercity bus from Larnaca (Finikoudes bus stop).
