We visited Avila on the way from Segovia to Salamanca. The city is situated at an altitude of 1128 meters above sea level, although there are no high mountains in the surrounding area.

Avila is famous for its fortified wall around the old town and because of it this place worth a visit. The wall was built in the XI-XIV centuries on the site of Roman and Arab fortifications. Has 88 towers and 9 gates, total length is more than 2500 meters. Since 1985 wall is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Not far from the wall there is an observation deck Cuatro Postes, which offers a view of the city (N40°39.604 W004°42.689).
