An interesting structure can be spotted on the mountainside. It is a villa designed and built in the mid-20th century by Gustav Winter, a reclusive German engineer.
The villa is the subject of several conspiracy theories, often involving Nazis. The main theory involves the fact that the villa had a tower with a lighthouse-like electric light installed in it, and that it was used to signal German submarines.
It is being renovated for 2024 and a museum may open in the future.
The blockbuster film Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) was filmed on the beach. Here was the very place where the water in the Red Sea went away and allowed to cross to the other shore. I remembered the film, first of all, for explaining all the biblical legends by ordinary natural phenomena, which is not surprising, because Ridley Scott is known to be an atheist.
And yes, there is no historical record of Moses or exodus of the Jews from Egypt. So it's just a good fairy tale.
