Another unique object built by the architect Cesar Manrique on the island of Lanzarote. This time he designed a tourist and cultural center in a network of lava caves. As always, with minimal interference with nature.
There is an underground salt lake, a restaurant, a garden, a swimming pool, a museum, and a concert hall. The main rooms are built in a huge lava tube, its total length is 6 kilometers, including 1.5 kilometers under water. Half a kilometer away there is another tourist spot, Cueva de los Verdes, which is a cave in the same lava tube.
The cave is home to an endemic, the miniature blind lobster Munidopsis polymorpha. Because it is very sensitive to various oxides, it is forbidden to throw coins into the lake.
