Ronda, despite the fact that it is small and little-known town, is the best small town in Spain. It is interesting that before the trip, we have not even heard about it.
Ronda is small and comfortable town, everything within walking distance. Stands on the walls of the canyon. The best view of course offers drone.
Our experiences have increased even more since we lived in the best place in Ronda, Hostel Casa Duende del Tajo (booking.com). Despite the fact that this is a hostel, we had two separate rooms in a large apartment and in the third room lived two Japanese girls. Room price is 35 euros, breakfast included. This hostel offers gorgeous view from the terraces.
We start drone directly from the terrace, here's the photo.
Puente Nuevo bridge has a height of 98 meters. It was built in the XVIII century, from 1759 to 1793. The height of the canyon by the way is 120 meters in some places. The bridge offers a fantastic view of the town and canyon.
In addition to the bridge Ronda has the oldest in Spain acting bullring built in 1779 - 1885 years. Both arena and bridge were designed by architect Martín de Aldehuela. There are a lot arenas in Spain, almost every city has one, but we decided to visit bullring in Ronda.
Arena is named after the iconic Spanish bullfighter Pedro Romero (1754-1839), who killed 5600 bulls!
View of Ronda and bullring from the top
There is a viewpoint behind the bullring.
After the arena we went to another interesting place Casa del Rey Moro (number 13 on the map at the bottom of the page). It is believed that this is the house of the king of the Moors, built in the 18th century.
House has a beautiful garden, but the main interest is an Arabic mine with depth of 60 meters, which was cut down in the rock to the bottom of the canyon. It was used for water intake and military purposes.
In the evening we went to the viewpoint (number 9 on the map), to watch the evening bridge. At first we walked under the bridge in the canyon.
Then returned to the viewpoint.
Unfortunately there was no evening illumination this day so we only drew a cat :)
Ronda also has an old town, but it stands in the background, since the bridge, canyon and the arena are the main sights. If you have enough time, you should see another bridge in the canyon (number 18 on the map). It's small, but it was built in the 11th century. Other points of interest look at the map below.
As well as in the other towns of Andalussia, ceramic tile here is everywhere.
Getting to Ronda: The nearest large airports are in Malaga (100 km) and Seville (130 km). Ronda has a bus service to Malaga and Seville, as well as to small towns in the county, the schedule is here. There is also a train station, where stop trains from Madrid, Granada, Cordoba (schedule).
