Obidos

Obidos is a small, old, very beautiful and very touristic town. The vast majority of tourists come here for one day, as the old town can be visited in 2-3 hours.

We spent a night in the castle of Obidos in the Pousada Castelo de Óbidos hotel (booking.com, 19 on map). And we can say that it was the right decision. Thus we were able to walk freely in the morning and in the evening, without tourists. And moreover we were able to visit the castle, which is open only for residents of the hotel.

There is one main street in the town with all the restaurants and retail shops. If you move away from this street up or down, the tourists will disappear even during the day.


The Old Town is surrounded by a fortified wall. On the walls you can walk freely at no cost and at any time. We climbed the wall many times around the perimeter. You just go along the wall and look for the most beautiful angles. The best view of the city opens from the south tower (climb at point 4).

In the castle we received access to the towers, which are also hotel rooms. Therefore, we did not miss the opportunity to make pictures from a drone.










The best location to meet sunrise is on the wall over the number 23 on the map.

Getting there: The best way is a bus from Campo Grande in Lisbon (schedule), about an hour to go. Buy tickets from the driver and look for the bus stop on the previous scheme. Obidos also has a railway station (http://www.cp.pt). On the map it is a little further then number 22.
