A picturesque fishing village, not far from Amsterdam. Located on an island on IJsselmeer Lake, you can get here by a long and narrow dike. It is known for its colorful and well-preserved wooden houses.
After the construction of the Afsluitdijk dam in 1932, the water in the lake became fresh and the village lost its status as a fishing village. For the past 50 years Marken is a tourist center.
