Platamonas castle

The castle of Platamonas was founded by Crusaders in the 10th century. It is built between the mountains and the sea, in a strategic point between Greek Macedonia and southern Greece.

For tourists, the castle is very conveniently located near the highway Athens - Thessaloniki, on the shores of the bay. The place is very picturesque, so even if you do not plan to visit the castle grounds, you can just walk around it and see the scenery.

The absolute majority of castles lost their military significance a long time ago, but not this one. Ptalamonas took part in the battles of the Second World War, information can be found here.

Getting there: parking N 40 00.249 E 22 35.752. Railway station Neοi Porοi is located 5.5 km from the castle. By bus from Thessaloniki to Katerini (schedule), then transfer to another bus to Platamon. Ask the driver to stop near Castle Platamonas, as the distance from the Platamonas town to the castle is about 3 km. At the bus stop there is a bus schedule.
