Everstein Castle ruins are located in the town of Polle on the high banks of the Weser river. The first mention of the castle on the site refers to 1226. Here was the home of the Everstein dukes. In 1493 it lost the sense of military use. After that, a portion of stones from its walls was used for the construction of the Bevern castle.
The castle can be visited. The main interest is the view of the Weser river from the top of the tower where you can climb.
Polle town and castle ruins are included in the "German Fairy Tale Way." Once upon a time, the Grimm brothers traveled to these places and noted a variety of interesting towns and castles to be further described in their tales. So, in Polle and castle Everstein the Cinderella fairy tale took place! For me it was a big surprise. Why is this fact not used to attract tourists? After all, Cinderella is a much more popular brand than the Town Musicians of Bremen, Hamelin Piper or Munchausen.
There is a performance with Cinderella and the Prince in Polle, which is held in summer, but I saw no ads. And there are no signs or sculptures associated with Cinderella in the town.
Getting there: By train to the Hameln, Emmerthal or Holzminden stations. Then by bus #520 (the Unter der Burg, Polle bus stop). Here you can download a PDF file with the bus schedule.
