A small castle on the banks of the Weser River. It was built in the 16th century as the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Minden. The castle resembles a Renaissance palace; its architecture reflects the transition from defensive structures to more comfortable residences: large windows, symmetry, and the absence of significant fortifications.
Following the secularization of church lands in the early 19th century, it lost its original function and was used for various administrative purposes. Like many similar buildings in Germany, the castle has undergone several phases of renovation and restoration.
Today, the building houses a hotel and a restaurant. The castle is not a museum with exhibits, but part of the grounds is open to the public. During the warmer months, the castle park features a beer garden serving simple food.
