If you traveled by train or car between Hannover and Göttingen, you most likely saw a tall white tower on the mountain. This is almost all that remains from the castle Plesse, which was built in the 11th century. The reason is that it was neglected since 1660, when the owners run away after the Thirty Years' War. Local residents began to steal stones from the walls and they took away most of the castle. The remains were restored in 1853 - 1864 by the ruling family of Hanover.
