Like many cities in Germany, Osnabrück was completely destroyed during the war. The city is standard, with restored historic center, Market Square and City Hall. If you like to walk in beautiful cities, then this place is for you.
The city is famous for signing the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. The Protestants signed the document in the local City Hall and the Catholics in nearby Münster. This document changed Europe very much, details can be found in Wikipedia. Also Osnabrück is a place of birth of a famous German writer Erich Maria Remarque.
There's a lot of different statues everywhere. Most of them were made by a local sculptor Hans Gerd Ruwe. Photographers and lovers of beautiful things will be happy.
For lunch, we recommend burger bar PETER PANE (Nikolaiort 5A).
In 2017 an interesting installation was made in the center of the city.
It's a shame, but the most memorable architectural composition is a terrible library in the middle of central square in the historic center.
There is also a local palace, which is now the main building of the university. There are beautiful flowers and fountains near it.
Interesting sculpture, on which you can change the location and poses of the figures.
River Hase (rabbit) flows through the city, so hares can be found here not only during Easter. Along the river there is a convenient walking path.
Getting there: Osnabrück is a large railway junction. Information from the official website.
