Oldenburg is best known as the medieval residence of the dynasty of the same name. Until 1773, the Earl of Oldenburg was also the king of Denmark, which means the weight of the title was huge.

And in the future, the dynasty ruled Greece, Norway and Russia. Yes, if anyone did not know, Peter III, Catherine II and the other tsars, who ruled the Russian throne until 1917, are Germans.

At the end of the 18th century, a strong fire broke out in the city and it was rebuilt in the style of classicism. There are almost no earlier buildings. One of them is Oldenburg Castle, the family residence from 1667 to 1918. At the moment, the castle houses a museum.

The castle adjoins a landscaped park in the English style.

Park benches in chains. Perhaps we are seeing this in Germany for the first time. It is unlikely that this is protection against robbers; rather, vacationers moved benches to other places.

Here N 53 08.278 E 8 12.794, near the park, we found a public toilet. The entrance there is 20 cents, and you need to throw two coins of 10 cents. Interestingly, how many tourists have them? :)

The old town has a rather large pedestrian zone and a standard set of shops for Germany.

Now new residential quarters are being built here. This is a good sign of a modern and developing city, especially since the population is constantly growing.
