The creation of the park at the monastery of Marienwerder (Kloster Marienwerder) began around 1766 according to the plans of Jobst Anton von Hinüber, clerk of the monastery since 1760. His trip to England, which lasted several months in 1766/67, was decisive for the creation of the park. He visited important English gardens and recorded his impressions in a detailed diary. In those days, there was extensive heathland near the monastery, the new park was created on an area of 40 hectares in 8 years.
The garden had never been rebuilt, so many of the original elements were lost. On the other hand, for the same reason, many 18th century structures remained intact.
