On June 3, 1998, near the German town of Eschede, the largest high-speed train crash in history occurred, killing more than 100 people.

You can read more about the accident in wikipedia or watch the 5th episode of the first season of the documentary series “Seconds to Disaster”.

In 2001, a memorial was opened at the site of the crash and 101 cherry trees were planted, one for each of the victims. We tried for several years to get to the blossom, but it was difficult as it doesn't last long and occurs at a different time each year. Finally, in 2024, we got lucky.
