In 1835-1852, the famous landscape designer Peter Joseph Lenné created a picturesque park here. Among his works are parks in Sansussi, Potsdam, Magdeburg, Dresden and Berlin. Designing took quite a lot of time, since it was necessary to fit the park into the existing village and harmoniously place the lakes, lawns and trees between the existing buildings.
Until 1891, the castle looked like this
Then there was a fire, the southern wing burned down and the building was renewed one more time. This time the white walls were decorated with red brick, and this gave the castle its distinctive feature.
During World War II, the castle was partially destroyed and for a long time laid in ruins. The first reconstruction was carried out only in 1985. In 2000, an auction was held and the castle was sold to a businesman from West Germany. His proposal turned out to be better than the proposal of the heirs of the Hahn family, who live nearby. In 2004, the castle was resold to Swiss investors.
Now the castle is privately owned, but can be visited. Access to the park is free.
