After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Pont du Gard was able to remain intact for centuries due to the fact that it was used as a bridge. Local lords were responsible for its preservation, and in exchange received the right to charge a fee from the travellers.
The place is very beautiful and very popular with tourists, so come in the morning. There is an opportunity to climb the mountain and look at the aqueduct from above. The timetable and ticket prices are on the official website.
