The oldest part of the Renaissance castle dates back to 1480, and the newest to 1590. Inside are the works of Goya, Rubens and Raphael, as well as furniture that belonged to Louis XIV and Louis XVI.
In 1578 the castle was acquired by Ingeborg Skeel. She herself ruled it and since she was a woman it was quite unusual for that time. Various rumors spread among the people, saying that she was greedy, cruel, a witch, and even killed the architect of the castle. In reality she was just a successful businesswoman.
You can walk in the park around the castle freely, the interior can be visited with a guided tour, which is held 4 times a day. Find here schedule and price of tickets. The castle hosts the medieval festival https://middelalderdage.dk/.
