All well-preserved fortifications on the Greek part of Cyprus are located within the major cities. Only the Kolossi Castle is located in the countryside. The first fortress on the site was built in the 13th century by a king of Jerusalem. In the 14th century, the Templar knights settled here. They organized the production of sweet wine, which is now considered one of the oldest in the world. The name "Commandaria" has not changed for the past eight centuries!
The central part of the castle is a large square dungeon tower. There are several floors inside with large empty rooms and an observation deck at the top. The castle is open daily from 8 am.
Getting there: The castle is located 12 km from the center of Limassol. There is no public transport to the castle. If it's not too hot, you can rent a bike. However, there are no bicycle paths, you have to go along the roads. We went by taxi.
