Uzhgorod is a small, compact and beautiful city. Japanese cherry trees - sakuras - grow on its streets. There are crowds of tourists here in April who come to watch the sakuras blossom. Besides, every year the "Zakarpatske Bozhole" wine fest is held here.
The most beautiful place is the central part near the pedestrian bridge.
Old town is located on both sides of the bridge. It is small and can be visited in 2-3 hours.
Local Apple shop.
Synagogue (1904).
Behind the synagogue is an abandoned train. These is the remains of the shortest children's railway in Ukraine.
In a small street Girchychne zerno (Mustard seed) is the only in the Carpathian region restaurant of Georgian cuisine. Fans of khinkali have to visit this place. By the way, we cannot recommend much-touted restaurant "Detsa u Notara" due to extremely slow service (over two hours!).
Theatre Square - the heart of the city.
Uzh river flows through the whole city. There are paved embankments and green areas which are ideal for walks along its banks.
One of the main attractions of the city is a well-preserved castle and museum.

Near the castle is a small Skansen with samples of houses and estates of Transcarpathians.
The Uzhgorod surprised us with a new art project "mini-sculptures". Small figures are placed throughout the city and are popular among tourists. PDF map with the sculptures can be found here (only in russian).
Another new landmark of the city is a confectionery «Valentin & Valentina Shtefanyo» (Dukhnovich str., 16.). Be sure to visit this place and try macarons, they are better here than in Paris, trust us. You can also try an Uzhgorod cake.
