Sumy is not considered to be a tourist city, but, like other regional centers, it's worth visiting.
We really liked Sumy - a beautiful, cozy and clean city, with lots of green areas. We were there on May 1 (Ukrainian Labor Day), but even during a holiday it was quiet there and we enjoyed it. We even slept on the grass in the park for an hour.
On the way from the railway station there is an interesting park for children called "Skazka" ("Fairy Tale.") It is a small "town" with lakes, castles and attractions. It was built long ago, during the Soviet era, and now needs restoration. It is strange that the city authorities don't do it.
Puss in Boots is the most beautiful and well preserved sculpture, many others are ruined by vandals.
The second and main municipal park of Kozhedub (a pilot who knocked the largest number of German planes) is located along the Psel river that flows through the city. The park is large and beautiful, a perfect place for a bike ride.
Getting there: By train from Kyiv (about 5.5 hours). Also in Kyiv you can book seats in comfortable buses of the Gunsel carrier. The buses leave from the central bus station (Demiyivska metro station).
